Satellite model of site

In this post we were supposed to use google earth and sketch up 7 to make a satellite model of our site and the surrounding areas. We had to transfer the google earth template to sketch up and then use that terrain to create a sort of 3D model of the site and the buildings around it. The buildings that were on the template (only a few of them - not all) we had to make 3D by drawing outlines around them and pulling them up to the height it actually would be. In class when I was trying to do this is wouldn't work correctly, was really slow and wouldnt draw some of the lines. I tried two other computers to do it, and they didn't work either. When I got home I tried to download sketch up and google earth (for the 2nd time) and it wouldn't download. So I got about halfway through the 3D satellite in class and then it wouldn't do anything correct anymore. I'm going to try again Monday on a computer in the other room and see what that does.

The building site

On December 9th we went to the site where our museums and memorials would be "built." We surveyed the land and the vegetation around it to get ideas for how our buildings should be built. The site in regards to a museum is small. Museums are normally large, but the museum that will be built on this lot will be a smaller kind, more of an independent museum. I chose the image on the right because it shows some of the area the site is in. It's in a residential sort of community...So it has to fit in with the area and the buildings around it. It has to be appealing to the eye. I would keep the trees and plant more so it will add to the vegetation in the area, and look like a good environment to be in.

The image on the left shows that the museum will also be situated in a high school zone. I believe the museum should fit in culturally with what is around it...It should reflect new ideas but also the old. The church focuses more on the past, while the high school is always looking toward new things and ways to teach and provide education. The museum itself should join together new and old so it can be unique.

Creative Image from Picasa

I love movies, and I love movie theatres, so it was only natural for me to do my collage in a theatre like setting. I found different movie posters online and used them to make a collage, so it kind of looks like they're "playing" on the screen for an audience. I used red as a tie in color, as well as the shade of black. I picked movie covers that had these colors so it would please the eyes more so than if it didn't have a common thing. I liked the picture of the theatre as the background image because it brought a 3D depth to the collage, and really caught my eye.

My thoughts on google docs

Google docs is a useful internet tool that can help people communicate easier and more efficiently. It allows people to read your papers, documents or any other written paper that you wrote using google docs. If you choose to "collaborate" with someone, that allows whoever you're collaborating with to edit or change your paper or document in some way. If you just choose to allow someone to be a viewer, that means they can only view your document and can't tweak or edit you paper or written assignment. I think google docs is good to use because it's an easier way to edit papers and help others out. If you click on this it will lead you to the google docs website :)

Type of art I plan to house in my museum

I am a film buff, so it's only natural for me to want to house different kinds of film art and movie items in my museum. I would showcase old movie (antique) items from famous movies and I would have a theatre to show all sorts of movies. I'd have different sections in the museum for the different genres of film (about 18 total).

In those sections I would also showcase the biggest directors of the different genres. Great directors I would show include George Lucas, Martin Scorsese, Peter Jackson, Ang Lee, Stanley Kubrick, Alfred Hitchcock and many more.

Also, I would have a movie theatre in my museum. It would be like a normal sized theatre with red velvet seats and old fashioned posters and lights hanging on the walls. It would show movies every day of the week but it would differ by genre...So like mondays it would show classics, tuesdays it would show horror, wednesdays it wouls show action...and so on. I would also have red carpet inside and red velvet rope in side.

Entry Two - Class Description in My Own Words

Architecture 1 is about creating a building, a museum, through your own viewpoint. The museum that the person is designing will be made for a specific form of art - like music, film, painting... - and the design for the building will be based on the form of art it is housing. The students will create a museum on their own...with their own ideas and creative input. They have to research the type of art they want to showcase in the museum and design based on the concepts they learn. Architecture 1 to me is basically structured to give students an assignment and guide them along. However, the student is to use their own creative visions to design their building and use their own ideas to construct a floor plan and layout for their museum. If you click this it will lead you to the class website.

Entry One - Blogging in Architecture

Dictionary.com says that a blog is an online diary where you can organize your thoughts and ideas on a web page for people to see. There are different kinds of blogs, but the most useful kind of blogging for architecture would probably be corporate blogging or question blogging.

Blogging can be useful in Architecture because it can be used to share information with other people about architecture as well as your teacher and fellow students if you're in an Arch Design class. You can learn about the different forms of architecture by reading other people's blogs and you can even be helpful to others. Blogging can improve communication between architects around the world and can help people who are studying architecture as a career to get informative answers about questions they have. Wikipedia stated that blogging is useful in businesses because it can be used to advance marketing and for public relations services.
